Description of the IT research project: The SMILE project, carried out at the ISE Chair of the TU Berlin in cooperation with IAV GmbH, aims to methodically and technically investigate and support the migration to serverless applications.
Serverless Computing is a new approach to Cloud Computing, whereby users only define the functionality of their application systems based on environmental services. All other levels of execution are invisible to the developer, since responsibilities, such as demand-oriented scaling, are assumed by the cloud provider. Application developers can therefore concentrate on creating applications instead of managing complex systems.
The project aims to create an open serverless migration framework (SMF) that can be used to migrate parts of traditional (cloud) applications to a serverless infrastructure. Initially, the project will focus on data-intensive analysis applications such as those used at IAV for vehicle testing.
