Description of the IT-research project: Complex activities at the workplace require a high degree of attention from the personnel carrying out the work. Complex work steps can delay the knowledge-worker for a long time during the implementation or exceed the competences – especially for inexperienced employees.
There are two basic ways for a user to react to such situations: 1) by means of a (digital) manual, or 2) by obtaining the necessary expertise from colleagues. Not only is valuable time lost due to this overhead, but the user also loses the actual focus on the activity. With the advent of modern augmented reality technologies, such problem situations can be optimally addressed and complex processes can be simplified for employees.
Therefore, the goal of the presented project is to use AR technologies to present interactive and immersive visualizations of large amounts of data directly in physical space in a simple and understandable way. The immersion of the user in the data analysis task should especially increase commitment and productivity.
In order to simplify complex data analysis tasks in the workplace, this project will develop AR-based optimizations that help knowledge-workers to manage complex activities more efficiently and effectively. The interaction concepts developed in this project will be evaluated by means of a prototypical system with experts and end users in user-oriented studies.
