About me:
What is your IT-Project about – core topic – and how could it be used in the long run?
We do develop AI-supported simulations that do recreate the growth of brain tumors. The aim of this project is to better understand how tumors spread in the brain and to improve the planning and effectiveness of radiotherapy.
Career:
What exactly was your personal reason to pursue a career in computer science?
My interest in computer science was already ignited through the attendance of a technical secondary school with specialization in computer science. Through dedicated teachers, I gained insights into many different fields, from assembly language programming to software development. During my physics study, I engaged more in depth with the intersection with computer science, for instance, the physics of analog neuronal networks. Today, I combine knowledge from physics and computer science to develop AI-based simulations for medical applications.
Personality
Which values and character traits do you see as fundamental for people in leading positions?
Honest and direct communication, since that builds the foundation for trust, motivation, and collective development within the team.
Mindset
What gets your creativity flowing?
Often, I get my creativity flowing whenever I talk to other smart people. Especially whenever we discuss diverse methods that are implemented in many different applications. Thereby, as a result, often new ideas come across my mind of how those approaches can be implemented into one’s own question. Once a promising idea is crystallized, it’s difficult for me to stop thinking about it. I must try it out immediately.
Impact
Imagine the following scenario: You’d have access to an unlimited budget for sustainable purposes. What exactly would you like to implement?
I would facilitate every single person’s access to excellent education. I’m enormously thankful that I had the opportunity myself because it is the foundation for many things in life. In the past few years, thanks to the internet and especially through large language models, we’ve made a huge step forward. I’d like to push forward this progress to make high-quality education worldwide open to the public.
