Who are you and what do you do? Who are your partners?
I am Huanzhuo Wu, a Ph.D. researcher at the Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks, TU Dresden. have particular interests in big data analysis on Blind Source Separation (BSS) and Computing In the Network (COIN). In my research, communication networks are able to present the analyzed information to end-users in a low latency manner, instead of only being responsible for efficient data transmission. My industry partner is Huawei, with whom we develop in-network computing BSS solutions for industrial applications.
When did you join the Software Campus and why are you in the program?
I applied for the Software Campus (SWC) in the summer of 2020, and my research project officially starts in 2021. SWC provides a platform for researchers working at universities to interact with companies, and it also focuses on enhancing the communication and management skills of participants. This is what attracts me the most. For these reasons, on the one hand, my research content can be closely linked to the actual needs of the industry, and on the other hand, it will improve my professional skills for my future career development.
Which app/technical invention is indispensable for you?
For me, the most indispensable invention is the Internet. The Internet makes it easier for people to communicate with each other not subject to geographical location, for example, it allows me to talk with my parents on the other side of the world at any time. Also, because of the invention of the internet, information and technology are more accessible to everyone. In the future, telemedicine will allow people to get quality medical treatment even in remote and underdeveloped areas, and the expanded usage of the auto-drive will make traveling more convenient and safer for disabled people.
Has a personality from computer science or management particularly impressed you?
Elon Musk can be considered an impressive manager. First of all, he has the foresight to steer the direction of the company, and secondly, he has a strong executive ability and personal style, to be the leader of a team. And his business is not just about making money, but also about optimizing our lives with his ideas and products, such as autopilot, clean energy, and civil aerospace. I hope that my future work will be the same, to make our lives better.
Do you think there is “the” quality a top manager has to have today to be successful?
In addition to communication skills and expertise, I think a top manager should have decisive decision-making skill. Therefore, in addition to doing my Ph.D. research at the university, I am looking forward to the various seminars offered by SWC to enhance my management skills and prepare me for my future career.
Just imagine: Internet breakdown for 1 month – what do you do?
I’m actually curious about what others would do if this happened, because, at the moment, people’s lives and work are tightly integrated with the Internet. Thus, I would take this month without the Internet to visit some of my Internet-obsessed friends to see how their lives may have changed and to rethink the way we use the Internet today. I hope, the Internet is a tool to improve the quality of human life, rather than human beings become creatures who rely on the Internet.
