Federal Minister Anja Karliczek tests AR-Use-Case at Software Campus information desk at the Digital Summit 2019

At this year’s Digital Summit taking place on the 28th and 29th of October 2019 in Dortmund Software Campus was represented again by participants of the program from DFKI and TU Darmstadt. They showed the Federal Minister of Education and Research Anja Karliczek how already implemented Software Campus projects can be made walkable and perceptible with the aid of AR.

The foundation for that is the IT research project „Automated Knowledge Extraction for Augmented Reality Applications in the Publishing Industry“ by Rocco Raso (DFKI) which he implemented in cooperation with the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group. The system is based on a fully automated extraction and aggregation of data with the aid of interfaces, NLP (Natural Language Processing) and ML (Machine Learning) technologies on the one hand, and on the other hand on the automated creation of an Augmented Reality application with the purpose to present the extracted data in a user-friendly way.

To present those already implemented Software Campus projects via this tool they adapted the participants on the previous day and presented the new individual application to the Federal Minister Anja Karliczek on the main day of the Digital Summit. Afterwards she had a chat with the participants and representatives of the partners like Software AG, TU Darmstadt and Fraunhofer IuK-Verbund about the necessity of supporting and encouraging leadership competence as a key qualification. In the end the Federal Minister tested the previously presented Augmented Reality application herself.
