SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar to become partner at Software Campus

The Software Campus welcomes another company to the partner circle: With the current application phase, SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar (SHS) joins the program with the two large companies Saarstahl and Dillinger. With more than 13,600 employees worldwide, they shape the Saarland and also rank among the leading steel-producing companies internationally.

“We are delighted to be a partner of the Software Campus and to give IT students the opportunity to develop their skills with us in a very practical way,” says Dr. Heike Busch, Head of Digitalization. “The talented students can contribute their ideas to innovative projects at our company and work with us to advance our activities in the area of “Industry 4.0 and digitalization” – a win-win situation for both sides. In addition to more typical issues such as Digital Twins, Data Science and Digital Engineering, our research topics also include projects in the area of sustainability. This is where IT can contribute significantly. We are already very excited about working with the young researchers.”

Digital transformation of the steel industry

SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar continuously invests in further modernization and optimization of systems and processes and pursues the industrial digitalization strategy Industry 4.0. In the current year, the company is looking for researchers in the following areas:

  • Development of an ML-based automated reporting systems
  • Digital twin in the area of production machines and systems as well as products
  • Digital engineering in interaction with lean methods and software engineering
  • Greenfield migration of a brownfield environment
  • Prediction of product characteristics using machine learning methods
  • Self-learning system to support employees in production systems
  • Consortium blockchain
  • Data model for product genealogy for material tracking
