1.  Zugangsvoraussetzungen

1. Ausschließlich Phd-Studierende der Informatik bzw. informatiknaher Bereiche (wie z.B. Data Science, IT Security, Medien, Wirtschaftsinformatik, Computational Engineering, Computerlinguistik, Ingenieurinformatik, Design) einer deutschen Universität, Hochschule oder Forschungseinrichtung können sich für das Software Campus Programm bewerben. Die Doktorand*innen müssen zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung als Doktorand*in an einer deutschen Universität bzw. Forschungseinrichtung eingeschrieben sein. Sollte der/die Doktorand*in zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung noch nicht eingeschrieben sein, muss vom zuständigen Doktorvater/-mutter ein offizielles Schreiben vorgelegt werden, das den Startzeitpunkt der Einschreibung dokumentiert.
2. Studierende dürfen sich maximal zweimal für den Software Campus bewerben.
3. Studierende dürfen nur einmal am Software Campus teilnehmen.

2.  Bewerbungsprozess, Auswahl & Aufnahme

Bewerber*innen durchlaufen ein mehrstufiges Auswahlverfahren. Nach fristgerechter Einreichung der Bewerbungsunterlagen und einer ersten Prüfung auf Vollständigkeit der Unterlagen führt jede/r Bewerber*in ein Interview mit Vertreter*innen der Industriepartner durch. Diejenigen Bewerber*innen, die das Interview erfolgreich bestehen, durchlaufen den akademischen Review. Diejenigen Bewerber*innen, die den akademischen Review erfolgreich bestehen, durchlaufen die Matching-Phase. Nur diejenigen Bewerber*innen, die in der Matching-Phase die verbindliche Zusage eines Industriepartners erhalten haben, werden in das Software-Campus-Programm aufgenommen.

a) Bewerbung

1. Die Bewerbung erfolgt ausschließlich über die Bewerbungsplattform des Software Campus unter app.softwarecampus.de. Bewerbungen per Email werden nicht akzeptiert.
2. Die Bewerbung (einschl. aller Informationen und Daten) kann ausschließlich auf Deutsch oder Englisch vorgenommen werden. Andere Sprachen sind nicht zugelassen. Bewerbungen in anderen Sprachen werden nicht berücksichtigt.
3. Die Einreichung ist nur bis zur Einreichungsfrist möglich.
4. Im Software Campus gibt es sog. „feste“ Forschungspartner und „nicht feste“ Forschungspartner. Die festen Forschungspartner sind: FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Fraunhofer-Verbund IUK-Technologie, KIT, TU Berlin, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, TU München, Universität Stuttgart und DFKI. Für Bewerber*innen der nicht festen Forschungspartner ist die Anzahl an Einreichungen begrenzt.
5. Eine Einreichung ist nur erfolgreich, wenn 1) alle geforderten Unterlagen vorgelegt (hochgeladen) wurden und 2) alle Zugangsvoraussetzungen erfüllt sind.
6. Jede/r Bewerber*in muss im Rahmen der Bewerbung eine Projektskizze erstellen. Die Projektskizze kann auf einem selbst gewählten Thema basieren oder der/die Bewerber*in erstellt die Projektskizze auf Basis eines von den Industriepartnern vorgestellten Forschungsthemen.
7. Potentialtest:
   Teil der Einreichung der Bewerbungsunterlagen ist die Durchführung eines Online-Potentialtests. Dieser wird durch den Anbieter „Harald Ackerschott GmbH“ im Auftrag des Software Campus durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse des Potentialtests werden auf der Plattform gespeichert. Die individuellen Bewertungen sind für die jeweiligen Bewerber*innen sowie für die Auswahlkommission sichtbar und fließen in die Bewertung des/der Bewerberin mit ein.

b) Auswahltage

Alle Bewerber*innen, die fristgerecht alle geforderten Unterlagen vorgelegt haben und nach Prüfung alle Zugangsvoraussetzungen erfüllen, werden vom Managementpartner (Software Campus Team) zu einem Interview eingeladen.

Jede/r Bewerber*in spricht mit Vertreter*innen von zwei Industriepartnern. Die Vertreter*innen der Industriepartner entscheiden nach dem Interview, ob sich der/die Bewerber*in für den akademischen Review qualifiziert.

c) Akademischer Review

• Im akademischen Review (Peer-Review-Verfahren) prüfen Professor*innen verschiedener Universitäten/Forschungseinrichtungen die Bewerbung.
• Die Professor*innen entscheiden nach dem Review, ob sich der/die Bewerber*in für die Matching-Phase qualifiziert.

d) Matching-Phase

1. Nur diejenigen Bewerber*innen, die in der Matching-Phase die verbindliche Zusage eines Industriepartners erhalten haben, werden in das Software-Campus-Programm aufgenommen.
2. Es gibt jedes Jahr eine begrenzte Anzahl an Plätzen. Darüber hinaus gibt es neben der Beschränkung der Gesamtzahl an Plätzen eine Begrenzung der Plätze für Bewerber*innen der nicht-festen Forschungspartner.

e) Offizielle Aufnahme ins Programm

1. Diejenigen Bewerber*innen, die in der Matching-Phase eine verbindliche Zusage eines Industriepartners erhalten, werden in das Software-Campus-Programm aufgenommen.
2. Der Lenkungsausschuss des Software Campus (Vertreter*innen aller Industrie- und Forschungspartner sind hier vertreten) beschließt in seiner Sitzung die formelle Aufnahme der Bewerber*innen in das Software-Campus-Programm.

3. Formale Antragstellung beim BMFTR

• Die Aufnahme ins Programm stellt noch keinen Anspruch auf Fördermittel für die Durchführung eines Projekts im Rahmen des Software Campus dar.
• Bewerber*innen, die offiziell ins Programm aufgenommen wurden, müssen über ihre Universität bzw. Forschungseinrichtung beim Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt BMFTR einen formalen Antrag stellen, um die Fördermittel für die Durchführung ihres Software-Campus-Projekts zu erhalten. Für den Antrag ist die Erstellung einer Vorhabensbeschreibung zwingend notwendig.

4. Pflichten für die Teilnehmenden

• Jede/r Teilnehmende muss ein Forschungsprojekt durchführen. Die Dauer des Forschungsprojekts ist mindestens 12 Monate und maximal 24 Monate.
• Da es beim Software Campus darum geht, Führungserfahrung zu sammeln, muss für die Durchführung des Forschungsprojekts ein Team aufgebaut und angeleitet werden.
• Jede/r Teilnehmende muss während seiner Teilnahme am Software Campus die geforderten vier Trainings und den Online-Kurs absolvieren.
• Jede/r Teilnehmende muss während seiner Teilnahme am Software Campus am Mentoring teilnehmen. Der Industriepartner stellt den/die Mentor*in.
• Jede/r Teilnehmende muss sich während seiner Teilnahme am Software Campus aktiv in die Communities of Practice einbringen.
• Jede/r Teilnehmende muss während seiner Teilnahme am Software Campus alle vom Zuwendungsgeber aufgeführten Pflichten leisten (u.a. Zwischenberichte, Abschlussbericht).
• Nur wenn der/die Teilnehmende alle genannten Punkte erfolgreich geleistet hat, wird die Teilnahme am Software Campus als erfolgreich gewertet. Ausschließlich Teilnehmer*innen mit einem erfolgreichen Abschluss erhalten das Software-Campus-Zertifikat.

5. Rechtliches

• Projektdauer: Die Projektlaufzeit – und damit die Teilnahme am Software Campus -beträgt maximal zwei Jahre. Eine kürzere Projektlaufzeit kann projektspezifisch mit dem Projektträger vereinbart werden
• Kosten: Eine Teilnahme an dem Software Campus Programm ist für Teilnehmende kostenfrei
• Eine Aufnahme ins Programm bedeutet nicht gleichzeitig den Anspruch auf einen Projektstart. Bewerber, die offiziell ins Programm aufgenommen wurden, müssen eine Vorhabensbeschreibung erstellen, die mit dem Industriepartner sowie dem Forschungspartner abgestimmt ist. Der Forschungspartner stellt auf Basis der final abgestimmten Vorhabensbeschreibung einen Projektantrag (für feste Forschungspartner: Antrag auf Mittelentsperrung, für nicht feste Forschungspartner: Fördermittelantrag). Erst wenn dem Forschungspartner der Zuwendungsbescheid vom Zuwendungsgeber (das BMFTR) für die beantragten Mittel des Projekts vorliegt, erfüllt der Teilnehmer die Voraussetzungen, das Forschungsprojekt im Rahmen des Software Campus zu starten

6. Alumni-Netzwerk

Teilnehmer*innen des Software Campus werden nach Abschluss ihres Projektes eingeladen, als Alumni weiterhin Zugriff auf die Online-Plattform zu haben. Dadurch haben sie die Möglichkeit, in Kontakt zu bleiben und von Informations- und Veranstaltungsangeboten zu profitieren.

7. Datenschutzhinweise

Maßgebliche Rechtsgrundlagen nach der DSGVO: Im Folgenden erhalten Sie eine Übersicht der Rechtsgrundlagen der DSGVO, auf deren Basis wir personenbezogene Daten verarbeiten. Bitte nehmen Sie zur Kenntnis, dass neben den Regelungen der DSGVO nationale Datenschutzvorgaben in Ihrem bzw. unserem Wohn- oder Sitzland gelten können. Sollten ferner im Einzelfall speziellere Rechtsgrundlagen maßgeblich sein, teilen wir Ihnen diese in der Datenschutzerklärung mit.

• Einwilligung (Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. a) DSGVO) – Die betroffene Person hat ihre Einwilligung in die Verarbeitung der sie betreffenden personenbezogenen Daten für einen spezifischen Zweck oder mehrere bestimmte Zwecke gegeben.

• Rechtliche Verpflichtung (Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. c) DSGVO) – Die Verarbeitung ist zur Erfüllung einer rechtlichen Verpflichtung erforderlich, der der Verantwortliche unterliegt.
• Berechtigte Interessen (Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. f) DSGVO) – die Verarbeitung ist zur Wahrung der berechtigten Interessen des Verantwortlichen oder eines Dritten notwendig, vorausgesetzt, dass die Interessen, Grundrechte und Grundfreiheiten der betroffenen Person, die den Schutz personenbezogener Daten verlangen, nicht überwiegen.

Nationale Datenschutzregelungen in Deutschland: Zusätzlich zu den Datenschutzregelungen der DSGVO gelten nationale Regelungen zum Datenschutz in Deutschland. Hierzu gehört insbesondere das Gesetz zum Schutz vor Missbrauch personenbezogener Daten bei der Datenverarbeitung (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz – BDSG). Das BDSG enthält insbesondere Spezialregelungen zum Recht auf Auskunft, zum Recht auf Löschung, zum Widerspruchsrecht, zur Verarbeitung besonderer Kategorien personenbezogener Daten, zur Verarbeitung für andere Zwecke und zur Übermittlung sowie automatisierten Entscheidungsfindung im Einzelfall einschließlich Profiling. Ferner können Landesdatenschutzgesetze der einzelnen Bundesländer zur Anwendung gelangen.

1. Entry Requirements

1. Only PhD students studying computer science or related fields (such as data science, IT security, media, business informatics, computational engineering, computational linguistics, engineering informatics, design) at a German university, university of applied sciences or research institution are eligible to apply for the Software Campus programme. At the time of application, doctoral students must be enrolled as doctoral students at a German university or research institution. If the doctoral student is not yet enrolled at the time of application, an official letter from the supervising professor must be submitted, documenting the start date of enrolment.
2. Students may apply for the Software Campus a maximum of two times.
3. Students may only participate in the Software Campus once.

2. Application process, selection & admission

Applicants undergo a multi-stage selection process. After submitting their application documents by due date and undergoing an initial check to ensure that the documents are complete, each applicant is interviewed by representatives of the industry partners. Applicants who successfully pass the interview undergo an academic review. Applicants who successfully pass the academic review proceed to the matching phase. Only those applicants who have received a binding commitment from an industry partner in the matching phase are accepted into the Software Campus programme.

a) Application

1. Applications must be submitted exclusively via the Software Campus application platform at app.softwarecampus.de. Applications sent by email will not be accepted.
2. Applications must be submitted in English or German only. Applications submitted in any other language will NOT be processed.
3. Submissions are only possible until the submission deadline.
4. The Software Campus has both ‘permanent’ and ‘non-permanent’ research partners. The permanent research partners are: FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Fraunhofer IUK Technology Group, KIT, TU Berlin, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, TU Munich, University of Stuttgart and DFKI. For applicants from non-permanent research partners, the number of submissions is limited.
5. A submission is only successful if 1) all required documents have been submitted (uploaded) and 2) all admission requirements have been met.
6. Each applicant must submit a project proposal as part of their application. The project proposal may be based on a topic of the applicant’s choice or on one of the research topics provided by the industry partners.
7. Potential Test:
   Part of the application process is an online potential test. This is carried out by Harald Ackerschott GmbH on behalf of Software Campus. The results of the potential test are stored on the platform. The individual assessments are visible to the respective applicants and the selection committee and are included in the assessment of the applicant.

b) Selection Days

All applicants who have submitted all required documents on time and who, after review, meet all admission requirements will be invited to an interview by the management partner (Software Campus Team).

Each applicant will speak with representatives from two industry partners. After the interview, the representatives of the industry partners will decide whether the applicant qualifies for the academic review.

c) Academic Review

In the academic review (peer review procedure), professors from various universities/research institutions examine the application. After the review, the professors decide whether the applicant qualifies for the matching phase.

d) Matching Phase

1. Only those applicants who have received a binding commitment from an industry partner during the matching phase will be accepted into the Software Campus programme.
2. There is a limited number of places available each year. In addition to the restriction on the total number of places, there is also a limit on the number of places available to applicants from non-permanent research partners.

e) Official admission to the programme

1. Applicants who receive a binding commitment from an industry partner during the matching phase will be accepted into the Software Campus programme.
2. The Software Campus Steering Committee (representatives of all industry and research partners are part of this) decides at its meeting on the formal admission of applicants to the Software Campus programme.

3. Formal Application to the BMFTR

• Admission to the programme does not guarantee funding for the implementation of a project within the framework of the Software Campus.
• Applicants who have been officially accepted into the programme must submit a formal application to the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) via their university or research institution in order to receive funding for their Software Campus project. A project proposal (Vorhabensbeschreibung) must be submitted with the application.

4. Duties of participants

• Each participant must carry out a research project. The duration of the research project is a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months.
• Since the Software Campus is about gaining leadership experience, a team must be formed and supervised to carry out the research project.
• Each participant must complete the required four training courses and the online training during their participation in the Software Campus.
• Each participant must take part in mentoring during their participation in the Software Campus. The industry partner provides the mentor.
• Each participant must actively engage in the Communities of Practice during their participation in the Software Campus.
• Each participant must fulfil all obligations specified by the funding body during their participation in the Software Campus (including interim reports and final reports).
• Participants will only be considered to have successfully completed the Software Campus if they have successfully completed all of the above points. Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a Software Campus certificate.

5. Legal information

• Project duration: The project duration – and thus participation in the Software Campus – is a maximum of two years. A shorter project duration may be agreed with the project management agency on a project-specific basis.
• Costs: Participation in the Software Campus programme is free of charge for participants.
• Acceptance into the programme does not automatically entitle applicants to start a project. Applicants who have been officially accepted into the programme must prepare a project proposal (Vorhabensbeschreibung) that has been agreed upon with the industry partner and the research partner. The research partner submits a project application based on the finalised project proposal (for permanent research partners: Antrag auf Mittelentsperrung; for non-permanent research partners: Fördermittelantrag). Only when the research partner has received the grant notification from the funding body (the BMFTR) for the requested project funds does the participant meet the requirements to start the research project within the framework of the Software Campus.

6. Alumni Network

After completing their project, Software Campus participants are invited to continue using the online platform as alumni. This gives them the opportunity to stay in touch and benefit from information and events.

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) – The data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specific purposes.
• Contract fulfilment and pre-contractual enquiries (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) – Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) – Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.

National data protection regulations in Germany: In addition to the data protection regulations of the GDPR, national regulations on data protection apply in Germany. These include, in particular, the Act on the Protection against Misuse of Personal Data in Data Processing (Federal Data Protection Act – BDSG).
