Entrepreneurial thinking as a starting point<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 2 and 3 September 2026, the Entrepreneurship Workshop 2026 focused on entrepreneurship as a potential career path for researchers. The event was jointly organised by Software Campus, AI Grid<\/a> and KI Garage<\/a>. The aim was to further strengthen support for science-based spin-offs from the programmes.<\/p>\n

To kick things off, the KI Garage team provided insights into what constitutes entrepreneurship and encouraged participants to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. A creative problem-solving game helped participants break out of their usual patterns of thinking and discover new problems and potential solutions.<\/p>\n

From research to market-relevant problems<\/strong><\/p>\n

A key focus of the first day of the workshop was on translating research into practice. The coaches emphasised the importance of bringing research findings into the business world and turning them into concrete applications. This allows innovations to find their way onto the market, which in turn contributes to the funding of science and research within this cycle e.g. through taxes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Working in groups, the participants first practised identifying relevant problems and learned about how to carry out market research. The aim here is not to present a solution as quickly as possible, but rather to gain a precise understanding of the underlying problems and to engage in dialogue with potential users.<\/p>\n

A key recommendation at the end of the first day was therefore: \u201cFocus on the problem and talk to people.\u201d After all, only by focusing on the problem and communicating sufficiently can one develop a solution that meets actual needs.<\/p>\n

Discussions with founders<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the evening, a networking event provided an opportunity to talk to founders and experts from the NXTGN Startup Factory and KIT-Gr\u00fcnderschmiede communities. Johannes Zimmer, founder and CEO of Lytris, shared insights into his day-to-day life as a founder and answered questions about how to balance the responsibilities of being a founder with one\u2019s personal life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From idea to first pitch<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second day took the process from problem exploration to the development of concrete solutions. The programme included, amongst other things, ideation and solution design, value propositions and business models, as well as the design of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and its validation. Working in groups, the participants developed their approaches and finally prepared a pitch.<\/p>\n

In the process, common myths about entrepreneurship were also challenged: What\u2019s the difference between invention, innovation, and novelty, and where does entrepreneurship sit? Does an entrepreneur really have to be \u201ethe first\u201c? Engaging with these questions opened participants\u2019 eyes to the fact that entrepreneurial potential can lie not only in entirely new technologies, but also in their effective application and further development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event concluded with a pitch session, during which the groups presented their start-up ideas and received feedback from a jury.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n
