Max Limper

Who are you and what do you do? Who are your partners?

My name is Max Limper and I work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) in Darmstadt. I am also doing my PhD at the department of Graphic Interactive Systems at TU Darmstadt.

In general, I focus on efficient representations for 3D data. The focus of my work is on fast transmission, so that such data can be used on different end devices, for example via 3D web technology.

At Software Campus, my industrial partner is Deutsche Post DHL.

What do you expect from Software Campus?

I see Software Campus as a great opportunity to acquire important managerial skills within the framework of my own project. Of course, the supporting seminars also make a decisive contribution to this.

In addition, cooperation with an industrial partner opens up new perspectives on both sides – ideally, this will result in a fruitful cooperation in the future that goes beyond the current project.

What is the content of your IT project and how could it be used in the future?

My IT project deals with the visualization of large, heterogeneous 3D data sets. For example, this could be 3D landscape data, which can be extended by a simple city model and additional sights with special details. So far, rendering frameworks quickly reach their limits, as they usually specialize in one of these representations. Our technology should enable every web designer to visualize such data in real time on any device: from desktop PC to tablet to smartphone.

What did you like most about Software Campus so far?

A seminar on conflict resolution strategies, hosted by Deutsche Post DHL in Bonn. This was not only very useful in terms of content, but the atmosphere in the seminar was also very positive and constructive.

What’s your passion – besides your job and Software Campus?

To make music – whether alone or in a band, this always relaxes me when it gets stressful.

In your opinion, what skills do top executives need today in order to be successful?

I think being sensitive towards other people is a very important quality – if only so that you can feel whether employees are tackling things with passion or have already resigned from their jobs in their head. In direct contact with customers, this characteristic is important anyway.
