Starting a business while studying: Omar El Nahhas shares his experiences

PhD student Omar El Nahhas is doing his doctorate at TU Dresden, has been a Software Campus participant since 2023 – and he did gain some experiences within the field of founding during his bachelor’s degree. For our article series “Behind the Code” Dr. Natalia Teixeira Silva interviewed him and captured the reasons that led him to founding a company and later to apply for our Software Campus program.

“People within the health care system are seeking for answers, and I’d like to solve problems. That was my initial entrepreneurial thought during my Bachelors. Now, I still enjoy solving problems, and the field of cancer is a complex puzzle which is continuously evolving”. With this mindset, and an encouraging mentor during his studies, Omar developed products early on in his career. His ability to deal with setbacks, adapt to changing situations and a high level of resilience were and are fundamental to his journey as a founder, alongside his supportive and inspiring network.

The start-up StratifAI, which he co-founded, develops multimodal AI models to support the prognostics in oncology. The aim is to mediate between science and industry. Not only to accelerate the development of such models and their implementation, but also to offer even better healthcare services. His joint project at the Software Campus with ZEISS also supports his research work in this area.

We are delighted that Omar will be presenting StratifAI at the Summit on 18/19 November 2024 in Berlin.
